well it finally happened....after 4 months solid they stopped talking and cant decide on wallpaper for the last 4 rooms :(

so....i shipped them out of the craft room and there they can sit till they shout again :P

wow i've been slack :P .....havent done anything until today and went wild lol

heres the top floor of the old beacon...renovated to be the Lady of the house's private quarters :)

not quite finished as i ran out of skirting and flooring ...doh so annoying :P

i've put her a private bathroom in her room...quite common in those days

Still needs some tweaking ....the beddings all wrong.....but i like it so far :)

i'm starting to renervate the inside of my 1st Beacon Hill....its quite distressing actually.... my beautiful Beacon all trashed :(

I'm sure i will like it better once its done.... gawd i hope i do!!!!

Heres the top floor ladies reading/quiet room and the start of the hallway...this may become her writing room...no idea yet so many rooms!!!! lol

finished the childrens school/play room....(wallpaper templates to be glued in when all rooms are done ) added a false hall at the back of the room

and today i started the demolition....renervation....of the old beacon hill.... my beautiful beacon is in dissarray :( ....however she will look fabulous once she's done!!!!

let me say....those stairs are a tad tricky to paint when they are already installed....i feel like a contortionist lol

ooooooooo and i also moved both beacons into my tiny craftroom...phew its quite a squash but its easier to work on them :)

i got lots done today........just about finished the little girls bedroom and the gentlemans study woot!

how exciting!!! 3 rooms to go!!!

once i've done them all i'll beable to check the lighting and stick in the wallpaper templates in the 3 middle rooms properly

i put a trim over the stairs in the study to try and hide the fact they go to nowhere lol

i'm trying to make it look like they lead up to the tower...i think it works ok :)

well havent done too much in the last week...had a bit of a break :)

But i've started the study/library and got more of the lights in

heres a preview...still a few trims to go in and not all of it is stuck yet :P

on the up side i have found the tables!!! nothing flash but within my budget and they will work nicely

i'll put them on wheels and move the sliding drawer down so the basements will sit on them...maybe even slide out to view hmmmmmmmmmm will have to see what that looks like first :)

well thats all i've done this week...a bit slack but i did go away for 3 days woot!!! :)

i'm starting to put the lights in the new Beacon and fiddling about with decorations....couldnt wait lol

heres the overall so far and the nanny's room

and heres the linen/trunks store and the servant entry

alot to do but its still fun :)

i'll light the 6 rooms on each side first...all the wires will come down the central rooms and go to the powerboard underneath the house....the 3 central rooms will have their wallpaper on cardboard templates and the wires will run behind these then its easy to get to if i need to renervate/swap lights etc

i think i need to concentrate on one thing at a time!! however..... decorating is such fun :P

now to the insides i'm saving to get 2 coffee tables or some such thing on wheels so she will open for 'play' the basements will be hanging under the tables so you will see them when its open and i plan to connect the towers with a conservatory...well ...we will see how that goes lol

windows!!! how many has this house got!!! the 3 colour thing looks great but the painting of each bit!!! its never ending :P

I got up this morning and......and....... theres an empty lot!!!!...someone moved the built beacon hill !!!!!!

i ran to the craft room.......the new beacon is gone from its building site too!!!

You know what this means?

I caved in and put them together!!!!!!!

only one flaw to change too!!! i am wrapped i thought there would be more....i have to cut off the back roof overhangs....thats all!!! they are 'out' by about 1/2 a centimetre too but i thought that was 'doable' as i reckon only a craftsman could get them both 'perfect' ....i'm happy with that!!!

today i worked on the 3 fireplaces and did a bit of wallpapering so i can install the windows

i've put in 2 false chimney breasts on an angle...i like the way they are coming out :)

so.....4 days of snails pace internet because of 2 teenagers sucking up all the monthly downloads playing World Of Warcraft = no blogging...no googling images...no forum....no emails...no facebook....no life!!!!!

Upside........i got heaps done on the build :)

One Derrrrrrrr moment .....i came to fitting the most fabulous feature of the Beacon Hill....the french door i had to cut a new hole in the bash for it....i had a new Dremel .....i'd never used anything like it before....i didnt need to practise...noooo not me i'm far too clever :P....after all my Dad was a carpenter lol....hmmmmmmmmmmm theres a huge gaping gap!!!!!!i think i should of practised lol and cut on the inside of the line not the outside ....what to do? make a step?....hmm no...cut sick with the spackfilla? yes

Now i'm also trying to do the inside...choosing wallpapers and i think i'll do this with the fireplaces

One thing i didnt like about the first beacon was that you couldnt really see the fireplace in the lounge...i think this will show it off better ....well for now this is the plan but she is screaming ideas as i go along :)

ahhh here is the porch/servant entry...i like it... woot!

i divided the sevant entry bit with a black fence which will have some sort of viney effort put on it....the trim for the main house part is the lounge window trim...fitted perfectly i like it ...even the roof has toned down a bit...may even 'dirty' it up yet...will wait and see ....its finally getting somewhere!!!

still deciding on that brick printie on the base...i think i will go with it...today anyways :P

I've put in 2 dormers, still to shingle yet...my least favourite thing to do :( and have been painting a thousand pieces for the porch and posts.....who's idea was it to do 3 colours? lol

Planked and stained the porch....i may do another coat to get it darker...maybe ...we will see :P

hmmmm now i'm looking at the picture....theres hairs all over it!!! wheres that furbaby? lol

Hopefully i'll get some post and porch roof assembly done tonight :)

I'm only having 3 posts so i had to modify the trim and move the step across....no idea about the fancy trim yet...i'll probably have to make some as the kit trim fits between 4 posts not 3 ....ahhhhhhhhh things to decide :)

well i had 6 days off the build and went and stayed at my partners for a long weekend :)

soooooooo...this is where i'm up to...back and all refreshed and raring to get on with it yayyyyyyyyyy

i might make this a removeable side wall or i'll never reach in there if anything needs doing...lights etc and i have the room wall in...just have to trim it ...hopefully will do that tonight

heres the inside so far...still a long way to go but its coming along nicely :)

these are possible roof ideas for the back entry....dont know yet...i like the idea...needs to be dirtied up and maybe done with a curved edge....we will see...too much like a candy store now

ok well i promise to blog more often ...i'm off to do some building :)

Another day doing the same thing :( i feel like ill be stuck in this room forever lol
heres the basement stairs cut into the veranda

and a handy use for the porch posts...keeping the crown moulding in place while the glue grabs

however...a lightbulb moment :)

i needed small windows for the new walls...i think what can i use.... i'm not using the front door!!! it has 'glass'....it has 'frames'....i chop it up ....just the right size!!!!! i am clever woohooo ...hopefully :P

oooo and i'm nearly done with this room....

hope i can get the stairs back in!!!

today i seem to be stuck fiddling with the basement stairs and the wall i had to make.......its all little bits of fiddley stuff which all has to be done before i put the actual staircase back in.....as once i put that wall in i wont beable to get at anything.....

so tedious painting trims and skirtings ...i want to get on with it!!! lol

isnt it amazing how we get over problems......i have all the clamps and gizmo's anyone would need.....but i use stupid stuff like rulers pegs and here string!!!

i was boxing in the wall i cut out...string was at hand to hold the strip on tight while the glue grabbed :P

So here is where i'm at....the basement stairs...still!!!

maybe tonight i'll get all the skirtings/cornices etc on in the servant entry and then i can move onto some windows woohooo :)

well so much for my plan to 'slow the build down' I seem to be forging ahead regardless....

painted the shell with 'sahara sand'.......painted the eave trims.....base coat of black on the window roof/roofs/rooves? lol

Started the servant bathroom floor....need to sand and age this yet...but its getting there :)

It's occurred to me now....i havent actually had the two of them together to see if this actually works!!! .....

i do know the first one will have to be repainted and rehabbed to match the new one.....

but....but....but what if they look stupid? .....what if they dont fit?.......

omg too much drama...

i'll just wait till i'm done...... hope for the best......and have the 'grand reveal' be it good bad or downright ugly lol

and a major decision......the basement is happening!!! might as well go the whole hog.....a true extravaganza .....omg its mega!!!

with my first Beacon build i wanted a green house....painted it and omg!!! all i could think of was ''the owl and the pussycat went to sea in a beautiful pea green boat'' :P

i quickly changed it to the sandy colour.........

its a nice green but didnt suit this house or what i wanted for it

anyways ..............building this second one i thought i'd better do the same so that the sandy colour will be the same shade (having green under it)

so here she is...the 2nd peagreen boat lol

tonight i paint her 'sahara sand' ahhh dreamy :P

also i've been paying around with floors and walls in the 'servant section'

and coincidentally.....i was browsing casey's mini's blog and she was stuccoing too!!!

a great tutorial for 'lacing' tried it out on the servant entry...looks fabulous!!! so thank you Casey :)

after my staining disaster i decided to slow it down

i'm rushing what is supposed to be my best house yet :(

so....i just fiddled about with the stairs, wallpaper and room/furniture placements for a couple of days

theres not much room in the craft room to work but as you see my 'helper' still manages to get in on the act lol

tomorrow i want to do the stucco and fill in the gaps....i think i'll concentrate on the outside and do some flooring inbetween....20 rooms is alot of skinny sticks!!!!

so............i decided to stain the floors ....i was going to floorboard with skinny sticks but as i like to 'fill my houses to capacity'' you never see much floor anyway lol
All is good...i find the tin of stain i used on the other Beacon...i shake it up...theres plenty in the tin...i open it and start staining.......
top floor done....middle floor done....ground floor done....i'm thinking this is looking good !!

i go to make a coffee before the next coat...i come back into the craft room....i think...gee that looks dark, hmmmmmm well it must dry lighter......i wait.......its dry.....omg!!!! its a total different colour!!!!
I check the tin...yep its stain.....what happened??
Does stain go 'off' ?
did someone switcheroo it?
Well what to do... what to do? too late to change it now I'm thinking i'll have to redo the 1st beacon trims to match, as this new one is alot darker somehow.....but on the upside...i like the darker one better
OR....i could do the skinny sticks and just have the front strip to sand and change...but then i'd have to skinny stick both houses to match anyway...
heres a pic of the 2 front strips of both houses still baffled as to how its so dark...theres got to be a reason/explaination
or........my kids are right and i am losing the plot!!
Any ideas?

ok so today i was going to stucco and paint the main body But.....i cant do that till i make some decisions on the back veranda :(

1) am i doing the conservatory off the back?
i really want it on the roof between the towers but i dont know if i'm clever enough to do it......

2) am i having a basement?i think its overkill on this huge construction....but hey it is an extravaganza why not go the whole hog .........Still undecided

i think i'll slope the roof and only put 3 posts so i can section off the servants entry....maybe

and started to put in the left bay i'm thinking of putting a conservatory off the front bay....dont know yet and i found a handy use for the ruler lolwell i'm off to fiddle some more....might be back later :)

Today the mess in the dining room got to me....also my daughter was complaining of wood splinters in her socks lol

So........i moved the build into my craft room ....was a tight fit as i have far too much in a tiny room....but we made italso i moved the wartime house out into the dining room....i have a 'WWII corner' So that was Day 11 :)

I'm glad i moved it...i love my craft room....heater on...scented candle burning...door SHUT...building...ahhhhhhhhh bliss....

tomorrow i'm buying some paint and spacfilla....i'm doing the stucco :)

I've double glued the mansard supports....those babies arent going anywhere!!! I was all set to dry fit the curved roof....i have the new veneer parts backed by cardboard ( what a fabulous upgrade to this wonderful kit )....
rurrooooooooo....
its got to be reversed....the wood is on the wrong side....i have the cardboard facing out ....
mild panic sets in....then.....dohhhhh its going to be shingled anyways....
drama over i think i'll shingle them first before i glue and i realised that with the fab upgraded veneers the mansard supports probably dont have to be as sturdy as with the old roof as there isnt as much pushing and shoveing to get them to fit....did i say what a fabulous upgrade idea this is !!! .....and i'm thinking i might get my main wallpapering/templates done before i put the windows in.....so much to do but so exciting....cant wait to put the houses together and see how they look

okies i'm off to fiddle somemore...be back tonight to update :)

I bought a huge bottle of wood glue running out is never going to be a problem again
As it happens it was just as well i didnt get to glue the 3rd floor......i cut out some cardboard 'walls' to try out my layout i had planned.....i dont like it!!! too many boxy rooms
So.....changed my plans and have to cut more door holes....much easier when i havent glued the 3rd floor on!!!!
Heres the plot so far....original plans...no good...too boxy lookingand new layout....i like it much better I could of bashed alot more but i want to keep it so it still looks like the Beacon Hill and not a scratch built add on....otherwise it was a waste of time getting the second kit
The outside will look slightly different too but still recognisable as a Beacon....well thats the plan anyways
I have major plans for the towers....but will have to see if i'm clever enough to pull it off...it involves a conservatory.....or not :P..... depending on how it goes

Okies well cant stay here chatting all day....theres more doorways to cut and things to glue.....did i tell you i had wood glue now? lol

Today i fiddled about a bit with furniture and put a second coat of paint on the stairs......
i put a brick printie on the inside of the 3rd floor fireplace....
cut a bit off the rest of my 3rd floor tabs and got ready to glue the 3rd floor walls.....

ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG no wood glue left!!!!

went to the Greenleaf dollhouse forum to check posts about glue...
seems Tacky glue will work just as well...hmmmmmmmm....should i risk it or wait?

i've decided to wait So....heres the pics of the fireplace in dry fit
and so i'm off to bed...mad at myself for forgetting to get more glue i wanted to do the mansard supports tonight too so it would be all solid by tomorrow....

Day 6 came and went....visitors...RL happenings...didnt do anything to my extravaganza :(

Now its Day 7 .....I've cut out all the windows and door holes i need.... love that Dremel !!! the last couple even look kinda straight .....its all covered by trim etc so no matter

She is in bits again...tabs n slots made a tiny bit bigger...all set for the glueathon tonight Having a lunch break and in my best 'Arnie' voice ...........'i'll be back'

It's 10pm and i'm back I painted the stairs and decided i'd better do the service entry ceiling and trim out the stair 'hole' before i glue as i'll never reach it afterwards

Then i glued her together...she went together easily and everything fits like a glove.....i think widening the tab holes and making the tabs slightly smaller was worth the effort...only one wall needed a bit of a coax with the hammer So its onward and upward......heres a dry fit of the third floor

Things to do here before i can glue...so i'm off to bed and will fiddle with it tomorrow.....Nite :)

Day 5 :) The arrival of the dremmel !!!

i'm off to read the destructions and hopefully i will be cutting tonight!!!

I am back .......OMG!!!!! its fabulous what have i done all this time without one!!!

I've cut the doors and windows!!!!! ....not too proffessional as you can see ....but hey, ok for my first go and its all hidden by trim and stucco anyways....just need to fine tune the corners and then its the smell of wood glue for me!! okies i'm off to bed to read more about all the attatchments!!! ....what a fabulous tool i tells ya....fabulous!!

I have the final layout!!

top floor 2 x maids in one room.......ironing/linen store......servant bathroom

middle floor childrens bedroom......school room.....nanny

ground floormens lounge....dining room....servant entry/service stairs to upper floors/butlers pantry

this means that i could easily add a basement without changing anything we will see how we go I glued the stairs this morning...gawd ditched those confusing instructions...and winged it

had to make another cup of coffee as this one was sorta 'tied up' for a while lol

its only lunch time so i'll see what else i can do....still a hold up on the cutting and i'm still fluttering Talk soon well i got the stairs built...wasnt that hard surprisingly and placed them in the servants entry.....hmmmmmmm dont know if i like them yet but painted and the banisters on they should be ok....they look a bit to tall for the room but its the same height as where they should be in the hall...so i dont know

ok i'm tired and rambling ...so off to bed :)

I NEED A DREMEL!!!!!!
I'm trying to cut the new door and window holes with an exacto knife and a hobby saw.....let me tell you....its not working!!!

Plan B....flutter the eyelashes at my partner....i need a Dremel...i need one....i need one....it might be working ....he is 'looking into it'

Today i worked out a few more things...some windows and doors i was planning wont work so i changed things around and played with furniture placementsthe kitchen/butlers pantry will now have stairs in it...talk about squishy but i can make it workI think its all going to work and look fabulous....

heres a pic so far....dry fit only as i need those windows/doors cut out...grrrrrrrrrrr i need that Dremel NOW !!!

Well...i didnt get much done today as i left home at 8am to 'taxi' my daughter to university, then it was coffee and shopping with my Mam, then back to pick up 'uni' girl and by the time i got home it was 3pm

But i did work lots of things out in my head ( what will work and what wont....placements of inside walls and changes to the outside )....made some floor and ceiling templates so i can lay floorboards and wallpaper the ceilings and.....and.....and.... just then, i glued my first piece!!!!! What an achievement !!!

Lets hope tomorrow sees more progress but i did glue something!!!

Her Majesty The Beacon Hill has arrived !!

Only 12 days and she has arrived!!!! had to haul her in myself as the parcel postal woman wouldnt lift it but she is here and ....and.....and............omg the realisation............i have to actually do this!!!!
Here she is in all her 'box' glory...with me in my jarmas, hair not even combed...i just couldnt wait .....but when did i get that double chin?
Ok well cant stop and chatter...theres a box to open....wood to smell.....sanding and sticking to be done....plans to impliment ...............talk soon ....Linda
Ok so we are now 5 hours in........punched out and marked the first 10 sheets......sort of a bit of a dry fit of the main walls...... a bit wobbly but i need to see where to change doors/windows etc.............because i'm reversing it all.......the inside is now the outside and the floor is now the ceiling........realising omg this is a huge undertaking ....
I may now have to rehab the 'already built one' to match it....as i've lost all the wonderful wood to stain for the floors (its now on the ceiling!!!!) and i havent even worked out if i lose the nice stainable inside windows......
ahh well i will paint all the windows in BOTH houses and lay floorboards........not a problem....just adds another year or so onto the finishing..... Well i've had a break......... i'm off to work out more stuff....so exciting!!!!

One day i was dusting out and rearranging things in my Beacon Hill dollhouse ...

i stood back to admire the changes and.....whammo!!! it hit me!!! ..... build another one in reverse...back to back them....voila!!! a 20 room dust free mansion!!!! Fabulosity at its best !!!

So......... i planned it all out...the changes to the 'back/front' so it doesnt just look like 2 houses stuck together....the interior layouts...the colours and all the associated lighting plans etc

Now...i have the idea...i'm dying to get started...i have NO money...i have one Beacon Hill...i need another one

Plans form to sell some of my other houses and buy up cheap houses on evilbay to do up and sell....all profits to go to the 'extravaganza fund'....sounds simple enough.....

Then......... i win joint 3rd place in the 2009 Spring Fling contest!!!!

i have $125 to spend in the Greenleaf store!!! ....i flutter my eyelashes at my partner.... .....it works!!!!.....i order the 2nd BeaconHill

So here we are all up to date....i am awaiting the arrival of the 'piece de resistance'...this blog will follow all the steps i take...the joys, dissappointments , mistakes and lightbulb moments all glorified in pictures
